According to tradition, around 1550 a lady of the manor, Louise Estivalle, kneeling on the road after helping a beggar, saw the Virgin holding the dead Christ show her, "as if she were there", the Mass being celebrated in the distant church. An oratory was raised on the spot, destroyed at the Revolution and then rebuilt several times (1858–1876, then in the 20th century). The pilgrimage of 8 September keeps this story alive, documented by local tradition rather than by any contemporary source.
