Église Notre-Dame d'Obézine
Angoulême
Tradition relates that in the 13th century a shepherdess discovered on this spot a statue of the Virgin, which gave rise to an oratory and then a pilgrimage. The medieval statue was destroyed during the Wars of Religion or the Revolution; a new statue, crowned in 1934, took its place. The present neo-Gothic church, inspired by the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, was built between 1895 and 1960. The story of the discovery belongs to local tradition, without proven historical confirmation.
