This 13th-century chapel, on the edge of the cemetery of Pouilly-en-Auxois, owes its name to a polychrome wooden statue of the Virgin and Child (12th–13th century, 75 cm) which local tradition says was found intact after a Norman raid — a story that belongs to pious legend rather than verified history. An object of medieval pilgrimage, the statue was said to have "restored life" to newborns who had died before baptism, just long enough for an emergency baptism. Listed as a historic monument in 1897, it was stolen in 1980 and has never been recovered.
