Chapelle Notre-Dame de Divers-Monts

Fumay

Dimensions
Rural chapel of modest size, with a single nave
Period
Origins attested in the 8th century, rebuilt in 1802, restored in 1919-1923
What stands there
1 venerated statue, carried in procession every year

According to the oral tradition of Fumay, the statue of the Virgin, left in the parish church, grew "bored" of the place and one night left its plinth on its own to walk back, in the rain, to its chapel at Divers-Monts, washing on the way in a nearby stream that has since been credited with healing powers. Every year, at Whitsun, the statue is still carried in procession to the parish church before returning for the Assumption, symbolically perpetuating this tale.
