Chapelle Notre-Dame de Villethiou

Saint-Amand-Longpré

Dimensions
around 110 m above sea level (Beauce/Vendômois plateau)
Period
11th century (founding priory); present building of 1842–1843, enlarged in 1878–1881
What stands there
Several miraculous returns of the statue reported by tradition

According to tradition, a statuette of the Virgin and Child was found lying in the spring of La Coudre; moved to neighbouring churches, it is said to have returned on its own, several times, to its original place. A workman on the site, exasperated by repeated collapses in the night, is said to have thrown his hammer into the air so that the Virgin herself might point out the place to build: the tool fell where the present chapel, rebuilt in 1842–1843, was finally erected.
