What stands there
Miracle at the origin of the confraternity of Notre-Dame des Ardents, attested from the 13th century

According to a tradition recorded as early as the Middle Ages, the Virgin appeared in May 1105 to two rival jongleurs, Pierre Norman and Itier, asking them to be reconciled in order to help the victims of the "mal des Ardents" (ergotism) that was ravaging Arras. She is then said to have handed them, together with Bishop Lambert, a candle whose wax, mixed with water, healed the sick. This founding account, historically unverifiable, lies at the origin of a cult and a confraternity attested from the 13th century.
