Period
Rebuilt in 1948–1950; first light established in 1840

A sentinel of raw concrete facing the sandbanks where the seals of the Baie de Somme rest.

The Hourdel lighthouse has marked the southern entrance to the Baie de Somme since 1840, when a first light was established facing the small fishing harbour of Le Hourdel. The apparatus was modernised in 1852 and again in 1905. The present tower, a reinforced-concrete cylinder 18 metres high, was rebuilt between 1948 and 1950. Its occulting white and green light still guides the trawlers and overlooks the sandbanks where the harbour seals of the bay rest.

Getting there : Unmanned, interior not open to visitors; visible from the Pointe du Hourdel; serves as a helicopter landing zone for the civil protection service in summer (ARLHS identifier FRA-318).

Opening times and access details are given as a guide only: check before you set out.
