Château de Châtel-sur-Moselle
Châtel-sur-Moselle
Evocative military ruins, marked by three centuries of Lorraine and royal conquests.
The fortress of Châtel-sur-Moselle was founded in 1072 and for centuries formed a Burgundian enclave within the duchy of Lorraine, passing successively under the control of the Vaudémont and then the Neufchâtel families. Taken in September 1670 by the troops of Marshal de Créquy during Louis XIV's conquest of Lorraine, it was dismantled the following year on royal orders.
