Dent du Chat

Bourdeau

Dimensions
1,390 m above sea level
Period
Geological formation (Jura range); medieval legend linked to the Arthurian cycle

A fang of stone planted above the largest natural lake in France, between legend and a breathtaking panorama.

Overlooking the Lac du Bourget with its characteristic fang-shaped silhouette, the Dent du Chat rises to 1,390 metres on the boundary between the communes of Bourdeau and Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu, in the Jura range that separates the lake from the Savoyard foreland. Differential erosion of the western slope, marked by extensive scree, has shaped this rocky point into the form of a canine tooth. The summit offers an exceptional panorama over Mont Blanc, the Vanoise, the Bauges, Belledonne and the Chartreuse, as well as over the Lac du Bourget and the basin of Chambéry.

Getting there : Summit reached by hiking trail from the Col du Chat or from Bourdeau; remarkable viewpoint over the Lac du Bourget and the Alpine chain
