Village templier de La Couvertoirade
La Couvertoirade
This fortified village on the Larzac plateau grew up around a 12th–13th-century Templar commandery, inherited after the order's suppression in 1312 by the Knights Hospitaller of Saint John of Jerusalem, who had the ramparts still standing today built between 1439 and 1450. The Church of Saint-Christol, the castle and the commandery buildings are listed historic monuments; the village is the starting point of the GR 71C, the trail of the "Templar and Hospitaller sites of the Larzac".
