Arinthod

This enormous erratic block balanced on a point broke away from the rock face and was deposited on the edge of the glacial cirque of Vogna during the retreat of the Riss glacier — a natural geological formation rather than a worked megalith, despite a legend of a "dolmen" recorded in a 19th-century drawing. Local folklore places fairies dancing there at dusk and a "White Lady" keeping watch from a nearby lime tree, presented here as legends.
