Chapelle et fontaine Saint-Efflam (Plestin-les-Grèves)
Plestin-les-Grèves
According to legend, the Irish monk Efflam landed on the strand at Plestin around 470 and made this spring gush forth to quench the thirst of King Arthur, then locked in combat with a dragon near the bay of Lannion — a rare crossing of Breton hagiography and Arthurian romance. Historians agree in dating the composition of this Latin legend to the 15th century at the earliest, several centuries after the supposed events. The devotional fountain, which remains below the present chapel (1883, on an earlier 16th-century building), is still used for rites of popular divination.
