Source de l'Aveyron (causse de Sévérac)
Sévérac-le-Château (Sévérac d'Aveyron)
The Aveyron rises on the heights of the causse de Sévérac-le-Château, at 735 m according to Vikidia. The Cirkwi entry, which locates the spring by its coordinates, does not describe its development: so we do not know, from our reading, whether it is captured or natural. The river, about 290 km long, joins the Tarn near Montauban. Its history is mainly that of its uses: it was made navigable as far as Montricoux in 1747, in order to exploit the forest of la Grésigne. The plan to make it navigable up to Villefranche-de-Rouergue, even Rodez, never came to anything. The text also mentions traces of human presence in the valley, from prehistory to the crusades and the Hundred Years' War. No legend or controversy over the location of the spring was found in the sources consulted.
