Ermitage de Conliège

Conliège

Period
Chapel built in 1605; hermit Joseph Simonin in the 19th century; inscribed as a historic monument in 1998
What stands there
A hermitage and its viewpoint above Conliège

Above Conliège, a stone house with a roof of flat stones looks out over Conliège, the Vallière valley and Lons-le-Saunier. This is the hermitage of Conliège. Hermits already occupied the place when, in 1605, a notable named Robin had a chapel built there. After the Revolution, the commune rented the hermitage to a hermit, Joseph Simonin. The place then reverted to private ownership and was nearly abandoned. Today an association is working to preserve it. The chapel is vaulted and the building, of limestone rubble, is roofed with flat stones. The main terrace is supported by retaining walls. The whole, with its water supply system, has been inscribed as a historic monument since 29 July 1998.

Getting there: Reached on foot or by bicycle along the greenway between Perrigny and Châtillon, which starts from the top of the village of Perrigny, runs alongside vineyards and passes through the lit Diane tunnel (800 m). The viewpoint in front of the house is a place for walks. The buildings belong to the commune and to an association; no regular opening is announced in the sources read: enquire before going.

Opening times and access details are given as a guide only: check before you set out.
