What stands there
‘Memento mori’: the former ossuary of the enclosure, built in 1667 on the model of La Roche-Maurice.

The enclosure of Lampaul-Guimiliau has everything an enclosure of the Léon should have: a church, a triumphal gateway, a calvary and an ossuary. The ossuary, now the chapelle de la Trinité, was built in 1667 by the master architect Guillaume Kerlezroux, and the diocesan notices say it was visibly inspired by La Roche-Maurice. Only the façade facing the enclosure is decorated: small windows separated by colonnettes frame a round-arched door, and the frieze bears two Latin words, ‘Memento mori’, remember that you will die. On a buttress of the neighbouring porch, two angels hold a banderole: good people who pass here, pray to God for the departed. The bones raised from the cemetery were stored there. The enclosure was listed in 1910 and 1914.
