Verfeil-sur-Seye, in the valley of the Seye on the borders of the Rouergue, is one of the very first bastides of Alphonse of Poitiers: "the bastide was created in 1250 on the initiative of Alphonse of Poitiers, brother of King Saint Louis, on the site of an old Roman camp", the very year in which the count founded Najac and Saint-Pastour. Wikipedia adds that "Verfeil was destroyed several times over the centuries", without detailing these destructions. The village keeps its church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens, which holds an altar and a tabernacle of gilded wood of the 17th century from the abbey of Beaulieu, a market hall rebuilt in 1887, and, in the hamlets, the chapel of Saint-Eutrope d'Alzonne, the churches of Saint-Robert de Selgues and Saint-Sixte de Paulhac. With 406 inhabitants, Verfeil is a quiet town of the causse and the valley, on the border of the Aveyron.
