Dimensions
Two perpendicular wings in an L, with pavilion-towers at the corners. An esplanade precedes the west wing, whose gateway is approached by a bridge — a former drawbridge — over a ditch. A vast terrace overlooking the valley of the Dronne, a bartizan at the south-east corner, and a massive dovecote adjoining the outbuildings.
Period
Former noble stronghold of the 14th century, burnt in the 16th; outbuildings and dovecote of the 17th; south and west wings restored in the 19th century.
What stands there
Listed as monuments historiques (inscribed) on 11 September 2001 (PA24000032): the château, its terrace and its outbuildings. Property of the du Lau d'Allemans family, who have held it since the 17th century and who farm an estate of three hundred hectares. The features evoking feudalism were removed at the Revolution.

Montardy is a former noble stronghold of the 14th century that overlooks the valley of the Dronne, south of the departmental road 93, between Celles and Grand-Brassac. Burnt in the 16th century, it was raised again and completed in the 17th with its outbuildings and its massive dovecote; its two perpendicular wings form an L, with pavilion-towers at the corners, and its west gateway is preceded by a former drawbridge crossing a ditch. At the Revolution, everything that recalled feudalism was removed. A fire destroyed the eastern wing in 1871. The du Lau d'Allemans family has held it since the 17th century; the château, its terrace and its outbuildings have been listed as monuments historiques (inscribed) since 11 September 2001.

Getting there : Private property. One wing has been let as accommodation for more than thirty years; the château is not open for unguided visits. Situated south of the departmental road 93, between Celles and Grand-Brassac.
