What stands there
necropolis of Louis XI

This sanctuary's rise began in 1280 with the discovery of an oak statue of the Virgin and Child, at once credited with miraculous powers. Destroyed by the English in 1428 during the Hundred Years' War, the basilica was rebuilt through the vow made by Dunois and then by Louis XI, who made it his favorite place of pilgrimage and chose to be buried there, beside his wife Charlotte of Savoy, rather than at Saint-Denis — a rare break with the tradition of the royal necropolis.
