Commanderie de Falletans

Falletans

Dimensions
Very few visible remains — a modern building constructed with the stones of the former Templar keep; a park boundary stone engraved with the faces of Templar grand masters.
Period
Founded around 1150 with the support of Count Renaud III of Burgundy. Passed to the Hospitallers after 1312, until its sale as national property in 1791.
What stands there
very partial remains — no chapel or Templar lodgings surviving above ground

Between the Doubs and the forest of Chaux, near Dole, the commandery of Falletans was founded around 1150 by the Templars with the support of Count Renaud III of Burgundy. It then had the look of a manor house flanked by towers and ringed by walls, with its own chapel and a tile works. After the dissolution of the order, the site passed to the Hospitallers, who kept it until its sale as national property in 1791. Almost nothing of the original complex remains today: all that survives is a modern building reusing the stones of the former keep, and a boundary stone engraved with the faces of grand masters of the order — a site whose value is above all documentary and symbolic.
