Chapelle Saint-Nicodème et ses fontaines
Pluméliau-Bieuzy
Dominating the Blavet valley with its granite spire 46 metres high, the chapel of Saint-Nicodème surprises with the sobriety of its interior, in contrast with the richness of its Flamboyant Gothic exterior tinged with Renaissance. But it is above all its two fountains that make its reputation: the older, dated 1608, lines up three basins beneath niches that once held the statues of Nicodemus, Gamaliel and Abibon, the three figures associated with the legend of the discovery of the relics of Christ; the second, added in 1790, honours Saint Cornély, traditional protector of horned cattle. The pardon, the Breton pilgrimage festival, on the first Sunday of August still gathers the faithful around this twofold spiritual and architectural heritage, where the blessing of the waters once mingled with that of the teams and livestock brought up to the forecourt. Reached by a path from the Voie Verte that follows the Blavet, the site keeps all its rural authenticity, far from the crowds, and can be visited in summer with a guide who opens the chapel to the curious.
